I couldn't resist taking a few more pictures of the beautiful snow!!! :) :) Despite the high winds and power outages, I still love this weather!

My first snow angel for the year! :):):)

Pumpkin Snow

So my sisters and I went for a walk through the fresh snow today. It's a lot whiter now than when we took these pictures, but it gets the idea across :):)

And yes, I did throw a few snowballs. . .

Despite the snow, and the fact that I was listening to Christmas music, I was still baking like it's October! Honestly, I've never been a fan of pumpkin flavored anything, not that I hated it or anything, it just wasn't my thing. I'm more of a vanilla and chocolate kind of person. I don't know if it's all the pumpkins around or what, but this Fall, I've been wanting to try some pumpkin recipes. (Maybe it's the Hallmark movies:)

So, I made Pumpkin Whoopie Pies today!

And Pumpkin Spice Latte!

Writer's humor!

Being an author is stressful at times, but as long as you can still laugh at yourself it's not too bad.

I came across some writer's jokes that I wanted to share. This first one, you may have to be a writer to laugh at, but I thought it was funny!

   1.    An aspiring writer comes home to a burned down house. His sobbing and slightly-singed wife is standing outside. “What happened, honey?” the man asks.

“Oh, John, it was terrible,” she weeps. “I was cooking, the phone rang. It was your agent. Because I was on the phone, I didn’t notice the stove was on fire. It went up in second. Everything is gone. I nearly didn’t make it out of the house. Poor Fluffy is—”

“Wait, wait. Back up a minute,” The man says. “My agent called? What did he say?”

   2. There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.
When asked to define great, he said, “I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!”

He now works for Microsoft writing error messages.

3. A  hungry African lion came across two men. One was sitting under a tree and reading a book; the other was typing away on his typewriter. The lion pounced on the man reading the book and devoured him. Even the king of the jungle knows that readers digest and writers cramp.

4. Q. What's the difference between writers and the rest of the world?
A. You can negotiate with the rest of the world.

5. A visitor to a certain college paused to admire the new Hemingway Hall that had been built on campus.

"It's a pleasure to see a building named for Ernest Hemingway," he said.

"Actually," said his guide, "it's named for Joshua Hemingway. No relation."

The visitor was astonished. "Was Joshua Hemingway a writer, also?"

"Yes, indeed," said his guide. "He wrote a check."

The End . . .

I love typing those words. The End. They usually mean that I've finished writing a manuscript that I've been working on for weeks, or months, or years. But today, is the end of the most crazy weeks of my life. As of Saturday, the Corn maze is closed for the season! Now, we're back to getting the farm ready for snow! It was supposed to snow on Saturday, but thankfully, it didn't. We're not quite ready for that yet!!

Now I'm not a photographer, but I did take a few pictures this last week of our life in the fall to share with you.

This time of year, Dad always takes 'the guys' duck/goose hunting. It's his favorite kind of hunting, and 'the guys' always love to go with him! (Us girls too when he takes us;) 'The guys' consists of Dad's nephews, grandsons, and church kids who have helped on the farm over the summer. Yesterday and today, some of my 'brothers' went back to their real homes and we miss them already but we're VERY thankful for all the help they've given us over the summer and fall!

Fall is the hardest and most stressful time of year for me, but I still really enjoy the Fall decorations! We always hang Dad's buck head in the dining room.  And that odd part of the wall does NOT have a paper plate on it despite what it looks like. It's a tin covering for the old chimney that used to be there when the house had a cook stove.

Our 'front' door is busy as ever with our 'flax straw season' when we sell flax straw to everyone who needs to cover there septic systems, or put bales around their houses for heat in the winter.

Okay, so this is a boring picture, but the trees are so pretty this time of year!

A picture is worth a thousand words . . .

You just have to go barefoot in the rustling leaves at least once.

My favorite shelf in the kitchen.

I always put my European mount on top of the piano for two reasons, one, it fits there, and two, Dad doesn't like it to close to his mount. Apparently mine is a little bigger . . .

The last of the garden is being taken care of before the ground is frozen for the year. We've had some really hard frosts, but the carrots are one thing that can handle that.

The pile of flax straw bales in the yard is quickly disappearing. If you need any flax straw come and get it!

When I hear about all the homes burning in CA it makes me even more thankful for the beautiful home God has blessed me with. It may be old and have it's quirks, but there's no place I'd rather be. When I write 'the end' it always means that I'm about to start another project. I'm glad that God holds the pen of my life story and when He writes 'the end' of one chapter, He always starts another chapter. I'm looking forward to that day in Heaven when I'll see my author face to face.

Until next time, this is Priscilla J. Krahn reminding you to stay thankful in EVERYTHING!!!!

Identity. . .

I wanted to post more about what I've been doing recently, but besides the corn maze and editing, I haven't really had time to do anything worth blogging about! (Except maybe buying 40 lbs of Candy Corn . . .) But anyways, I was looking through the archives of my family's blog, and I came across this article that my oldest sister wrote almost ten years ago about identity.
When she wrote this 'journal entry' blog post, she was a year older than I am now. At the time she wrote it, she didn't know if she was ever going to get married, (she's married now with five kids:) and I was an eleven year old girl who didn't care about reading long articles. But going back, and reading it now, it's almost funny how similar our identity struggles were.
Naomi wrote this article after spending a summer working at a camp, and I just got through spending a summer at a camp. I realize that this article is a little bit long, but if you have ten minutes to read it, I think you'll be encouraged. And if you know Naomi, you'll enjoy this flash into her past.
So without further ado, here's the article, Random Thoughts from Naomi, on the Krahn Family Blog posted October of 2008.
